Philosophy...

I find that initially taking the time to explore clients’ care needs, concerns and simply explaining the therapeutic process can greatly reduce anxiety about seeking assistance to improve quality of life.

Developing a good rapport and strong alliance with my clients is essential to effective therapy. I strive to create a therapeutic environment that is emotionally secure, non judgmental and client focused. My approach is very open, honest and always encourages power-sharing.

My theoretical approach is quite Integrative and Solution Orientated. Strategies I employ derive mostly from Positive Psychology, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (MBCBT) theories. Overall, through enhancing personal awareness, utilizing strengths and reducing avoidance (of difficulties), I aim to reduce client distress and create more opportunities for positive emotional experiences.

Clients actively create their own treatment plans through collaborative assessment, feedback and goal setting. Throughout therapy, these goals are reviewed, evaluated and revised to optimize progress. As I believe therapy is more than an ‘hour-a-week’ process, I usually suggest additional assignments and recommend readings between sessions.

Client needs, personality and circumstances often determine treatments chosen, therapeutic time frame and outcomes achieved.
