Philosophy
I love my work and derive enormous satisfaction from helping clients create a better quality of life. To help this process, I offer a warm therapeutic environment that’s empathic, non-judgmental and client-focused. At my practice, you’ll find the kettle is always on 😉
My practice is built on a foundation of developing a good rapport and strong working alliance with my clients. Together, we actively create therapy plans through collaborative assessment, goal setting and ongoing feedback. Goals are continually refined and revised to optimise outcomes. As I believe lasting change is an everyday process, I often set homework tasks and suggest resources (e.g. books, audio books, documentaries, podcasts, apps etc) for between sessions.
As a Clinical Psychologist, I use evidence-based strategies shown to be clinically effective. They derive mostly from Positive Psychology, Emotionally Focussed Therapy (EFT), Mindfulness integrated Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and the use of clinical hypnosis. In addition to clinical skills, my background in medical science, small business and not-for-profit volunteer organisations has definitely created a holistic therapeutic approach, which is very practical, integrative and skills based.
Overall, I strive to improve clients’ happiness and resilience by activating personal strengths, building coping skills and breaking unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaving. Naturally, I always take into account clients’ individual goals, personality and circumstances when determining specific strategies, therapeutic time frames and projected outcomes.
By special request, my faithful pooch ‘co-therapist’ Patsy, is also very happy to assist!
